Acting Classes - Intermediate

Our Acting Classes - Intermediate are aimed at those who have completed at least two Improvers Acting courses or the equivalent vocational intermediate level training or drama, theatre studies and performing arts as a BA or diploma level 3/4.

Explore script and scene work, dramatic improvisation, a further insight into established methods and techniques leading to an in-class rehearsed and directed performance.

Consolidating skills and introducing new techniques -  this course is demanding and challenging.

Acting Classes - Intermediate Content

• In-class rehearsed performance directed by your tutor, an industry professional
• In depth physical study of text and character
• An exploration of improvisation to enhance character development
• Deeper study of vocal technique for performance
• Use of a variety of methods including Stanislavski, Laban & Chekhov
• You will receive friendly critique and notes throughout the course

Our Approach

The City Academy Acting Department takes what we like to call a ‘rainbow’ approach in that we do not adhere to just one school of thought on technique. You will experience an insight into various styles such as Method, Stanislavski, Meisner and Augusto Boal. Our acting coaches are all working, professional actors and directors who bring to bear their own expertise. This enables a full and rounded approach allowing you to establish effective techniques that work for you as an individual.

We firmly believe in the value of Acting and Drama Courses for developing life skills, irrespective of whether you want to pursue acting in a sustained way. Acting techniques are transferable to your working and social life enhancing communication - learning about yourself and how you relate to others - enabling you to gain confidence and explore your imagination and creativity.

Our acting courses are planned to offer a progression through the levels of Beginners, Improvers to Advanced. You will receive guidance from your acting coach but in general we recommend that students take each level twice, with different teachers, before progressing to the next level. You will not repeat any content and will be challenged with new skills and acting techniques.
