An American in Paris Ballet Workshop

Have the chance to be taught by an original cast member from the award winning hit West End Show An American In Paris choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. For this An American in Paris Ballet Workshop, we recommend that you have completed our Ballet Beginners course or equivalent elsewhere.

The day will begin with a ballet warm up at the barre, followed by a short synopsis of the musical. You will learn two different sections throughout the show - classical ballet and a stylized jazz section. Throughout the workshop you will discover new ways in which the classical line and technique learnt in the studio can be translated into Christopher Wheeldon's iconic choreography.

You will finish the day with an informal showcase. Here you can invite friends and family to see what you have learnt throughout the workshop.

An American in Paris Ballet Workshop Content

During the ballet workshop, you will:

• Warm up at the barre with classical ballet technique
• Learn repertoire based on An American in Paris west end show
• Understand how a ballet class forms the basis of stylised choreographic movement
• Improve your musicality by dancing to the complicated and beautiful George Gershwin score
• Develop your artistry and skills of performance
• Perform choreography learnt in class to friends and family

This workshop will enhance your artistry, stagecraft, musicality, and challenge your brain to learn and retain lots of new material.

What to Bring:

Please bring your soft ballet shoes and character/heeled shoes if you have any. We advise that you wear what you would usually wear to your ballet class, something comfortable that allows you to move freely. Layers are useful as your body warms up. Remember to bring a bottle of water, and a hair tie if you have long hair.
