The Ballroom Dance Company is one of City Academy’s premier resident dance companies. With weekly evening rehearsals and regular performances throughout the year, the Ballroom Dance Company aims to be one of the most exciting ballroom performance groups in London.
WHO CAN JOIN?
The Ballroom Dance Company is for those who have completed the Intermediate Level Ballroom course at City Academy, an equivalent, or for those who have experience in ballroom performance.
HOW TO JOIN?
If you’re interested in joining the Ballroom Dance Company you can simply book a class starting soon in the timetable below. In the class you’ll take part in a regular company rehearsal in a relaxed setting, giving you the perfect chance to meet the group in action. Following the class, we’ll email with an invitation to join the company or give suggestions for further training. The purpose of the session is so that you can meet the Company Director as well as get an idea of what membership entails and the level of performance involved.
Membership provides the opportunity to perform at a number of events throughout the year. This includes dedicated shows as well as performing as guests at some of City Academy’s other events. Please note, once you have signed up to be a part of the Ballroom Dance Company, uuoi will be expected to take part until the show. This is to ensure that the show is choreographed for the right number of dancers. Please be aware of the time commitment before you sign up for the Company.
REHEARSALS
In weekly rehearsals you will:
- Develop and refine ballroom technique and styling
- Explore a variety of ballroom styles (both Standard and Latin)
- Improve musicality, timing and styling
- Learn challenging and innovative choreography
- Build confidence and learn the art of dynamic Ballroom performance

WHO CAN JOIN
The Ballroom Dance Company is for those who have completed Intermediate Level ballroom classes at City Academy , the equivalent o r who have experience in ballroom performance. To be accepted into the Ballroom Dance Company we ask you take a taster class. Book your taster on the timetable page.
COMPANY MEMBERSHIP
The membership fee is £80 per month and is charged for 12 months of the year. There is a minimum membership period of 3 months. This will cover you for all rehearsals and shows for the duration of your membership. (Note: Additional cost for costumes will be decided amongst the company each year and will be kept at a minimum.)
If you wish to cancel your membership please email info@city-academy.com with 14 days' notice to your next payment date.
COMPANY DIRECTOR
The company is led by professional ballroom dancer and choreographer Tom Wohlfahrt. Spending most of his life in Germany, Tom has been involved in dance since age 5. He found his passion for Latin and Ballroom Dance early and trained in several dance clubs with World Champions. The range of his professional experience involves commercial work in films and music videos; collaborations with world class companies. His highlight of 2018 was obtaining the bronze medal at the World Championship Latin in Paris in August. Tom is currently creating his own choreographic work, shown on several stages in the UK.

Company members are welcoming, passionate and sociable. We are always looking for new members - so if you have a love of performing and are looking to develop your ballroom technique, book a taster class to join the company for a fun evening rehearsal.
*Please note, membership to Resident Companies & the Dance Foundation Course are excluded from this offer.

To make membership fees more manageable, these breaks are accounted for within your monthly instalments across the year. This means there are no breaks in your monthly payments.

No Venue
All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
