Beginners Contemporary Dance Classes

In our Beginners Contemporary Dance Classes, you will learn to move in a creative, liberating and graceful way while also transforming your posture, balance and improving your overall fitness and stamina. You'll combine aspects of the four main Contemporary dance techniques: Graham, Cunningham, Limon and Release.

Our Contemporary Dance Beginners class builds up from simple steps and tasks to fully formed routines. It's fast and fun, but the teaching style is fully supportive and suitable for people with little or no dance experience.

These evening classes are held in central London dance studios and are suitable for absolute beginners.

Beginners Contemporary Dance Classes Content

Exact course content may differ depending on the duration of the course, your individual needs and those of the group collectively. However, topics generally covered may include:

• Explore and understand basic contemporary movement
• Focus on coordination, core strength and correct body alignment
• Learn fundamental techniques to improve posture
• Memorise combinations of steps and perform simple choreographic phrases

Contemporary Dance was developed in the early 20th century and presented an alternate form of movement to the upright and structured technique of Classical Ballet. By focusing on ease of movement, the body’s energy and natural lines, a greater range of fluidity and movement became possible.

You will be given friendly feedback and support from your tutor throughout the course.
