If you have ever wanted to write plays specifically for audio, Writing for Radio is the course for you. Learn about the processes of writing dramas and plays for the soundwaves. Working towards a 45 minute play, you will look at ways to tell your story without visual aids, and explore how to use soundscape as a tool. You will look at production values unique to radio and learn about formatting guidelines.
The course will also look at character fundamentals, approaches to narrative journey and what makes a good story.
Writing for Radio Courses Content
During the course you will:
- Look at different approaches to radio play
- Explore story and structure for audio work
- Learn how to use soundscape in the place of visual aids
- Look at character development
- Look at writing dialogue for radio
- Learn about production values unique to radio
As part of the class you will be writing your own radio play, so try to come up with and idea you would like to work on before the start date. As with all of our writing courses, your tutor will provide you with friendly feedback throughout the course.

No Venue
All City Academy tutors are experienced professionals from theatre, film/TV and performance industries. So whilst they're training you they may also be rehearsing for a West End show or working on a movie. We like that and we do believe it makes a difference in class.
