Create, rehearse, perform! Our Improvisation Performance Company is your opportunity to be part of a regularly performing improvisation team.
The company is performance led - focusing on stagecraft, scene work and responding to your audience. Led by an internationally performing improviser, the Company will explore a variety of improv styles and formats to challenge you and make you shine on stage.
To join this company you will need to be confident in scene work and have an understanding of basic improvisation techniques. You will need to have completed our Improvisation - Level 2 with Showcase or similar elsewhere. Entry is by audition.
How Does it Work?
The Improvisation Performance Company perform in three Theatre Productions a year. Joining the company involves:
- Become part of a regularly performing Improv Company
- Discover a variety of improv formats and styles
- Work on character dynamics and status
- Deepen your scenework with a focus on emotional truth
- Learn how to respond to audience reactions
- Use your own life experience to bring characters to life
- Stretch and challenge yourself with advanced formats
- Work towards creating your own unique format as a company

Level
Basic level skills are encouraged
Who Can Join?
In order to join this company you will need to be confident in scene work and have an understanding of basic longform techniques (editing, tags, sweeps, ‘cut to’s).
Entry is by audition - this is only to confirm your level of knowledge and listening. You do not need to be an experienced performer, you do not need to be funny or quick, you do not need any previous theatre training. We will be looking for improvisers who listen to and support their scene partners more than anything, as these are the key foundations of a great improv team!

City Academy run other Theatre Companies, which do not require an audition:
- Assemble Theatre Company - some acting experience required
- Foreword Theatre Company - some acting experience required
- Debut Theatre Company - no acting experience required
